MINI MEDICAL

Carried out by one of our doctors, this is a 30-minute health check which focuses on the detection of problems in blood pressure, cholesterol, prostate, blood sugar (diabetes), kidney, liver or iron storage problems.

The full consultation, blood tests and prostate examination only requires one visit which lasts thirty minutes. The medical is performed on weekday mornings, because a 14-hour fasting period is needed in advance.

WHAT TESTS ARE CARRIED OUT?

  • Haematology profile (FBC)
  • Liver function tests (LFT)   
  • Kidney function tests (U&E)     
  • Fasting Lipids (Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides)    
  • Fasting Glucose
  • Haemochromatosis blood test    
  • PSA Prostate blood test (aged over 40) 
     


WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Screening is the process of identifying a medical problem at it’s early stage, when treatment and management is much easier. A regular medical examination gives you useful information about your health and can sometimes also highlight familial conditions. Advice will be provided with regard to the management of any short-term and long-term medical problems.

 

APPOINTMENTS FOR MINI MEDICALS

Please remember to fast (ie. no food, but water is allowed) for 14 hours beforehand, to ensure accurate cholesterol and glucose results.

FULL  MEDICAL

Prior to the consultation you will need to complete our medical questionnaire at home, as this information helps to highlight any special concerns. The full consultation and examination including investigations only require one visit which lasts approximately one and a half hours. The medical is performed on weekday mornings by one of our doctors, followed by tests with our nurse. Subsequently a written health profile will be forwarded to you, outlining all results and recommendations made by your doctor.

  • Electrocardiograph Heart Tracing (ECG)   
  • Lung Function Test (Spirometry)     
  • Haematology profile (FBC)  
  • Liver function tests (LFT)   
  • Kidney function tests (U&E)   
  • Thyroid function test    
  • Fasting Lipids (Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides)    
  • Fasting Glucose
  • Haemochromatosis blood test     
  • Urine Analysis     
  • Faecal Occult Blood 
  • PSA Prostate blood test (aged over 40)


Supplementary tests may be suggested and arranged in certain cases. These tests may need to be carried out in a local clinic eg. Blackrock Clinic, St. Vincent's Hospital or Beacon Clinic and will carry an additional fee, for example:

  • Chest Xray
  • Stress/Exercise ECG
  • Calcium Score/CT scan of Coronary Arteries
  • DEXA Scan (for osteoporosis)
  • Ultrasound Scan (facilities in Slievemore)
