S.T.D. Tests / Slievemore General Practice

Sexually transmitted infections are very common and most of them are treatable. Sometimes they are present without any symptoms. It is important to realise that they can lead to significant medical problems if left untreated.

Any sexually active person may be exposed to a sexually transmitted infection. If you suspect you have an infection or that you may be at risk, it is advisable to be checked as soon as possible. Also, if you wish to be reassured that you haven't caught an infection from any previous sexual encounters, then it is best to proceed with a complete test.

All investigations and treatment are completely confidential and non-judgmental. The staff in our clinic are trained to treat sexually transmitted infections in an understanding, discrete and supportive manner, so there is no need for you to feel embarrassed.

For a woman who may be pregnant and may have a sexually transmitted infection, it is particularly important to be tested and treated as soon as possible.

The Slievemore Clinic provides a private, comprehensive Sexually Transmitted Infection Service which includes full STI testing, advice and necessary referrals or prescriptions. Screening involves examination and/or investigations for the following ;

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhoea
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C
  • HIV
  • Syphilis
  • Trichomonas Vaginalis
  • Herpes
  • Genital Warts

A blood test and a urine sample are required. A cervical smear test may also be needed for some women. It is important to avoid emptying your bladder for at least four hours before the visit, to ensure an accurate lab result.

Appointments for STI screening

Please arrange your appointment on 01-2000501 or 01-2000502. Don't forget to inform our receptionist that you are attending for an STI screen, as this requires a 30 minute consultation with the doctor. Do not empty your bladder for at least four hours prior to the appointment, as this is crucial for accurate urine results.
