Maternity and Infant Care

The maternity and infant care scheme provides an agreed programme of care, free of charge to an expectant mother and to her new born baby six weeks after birth. If you choose to avail of services under the scheme you will be under the care of both a GP of your choice and a hospital obstetrician. The Slievemore Clinic, Dublin offers the maternity and infant care scheme.

If your pregnancy is confirmed your GP will provide you with treatment and advice on your pregnancy and any complications should they occur. You will see your GP and your obstetrician on alternate visits at scheduled times throughout the pregnancy. Essentially this is a screening service to make sure that the pregnancy is progressing normally.

After the birth of your baby the scheme provides for a six week post natal check for you and your baby. Again, this is a screening visit to ensure that your baby is developing normally and an opportunity to discuss any concerns.
