Pre-conceptual Care
The medical staff at the Slievemore General Practice offer preconception medical care and advice to ensure that you are in best possible health prior to conception. This includes advice on lifestyle (diet, folic acid, smoking alcohol, exercise etc), ensuring smear tests are up to date, rubella/varicella immunity screening if required and any other health issues relevant to you.
Infertility
Not all couples achieve pregnancy straight away and if you have been trying to conceive for 1 year or more (or a shorter time if you are concerned about your age or health issues) it is advisable to book to see one of the doctors in the clinic. Ideally we would like to see both partners for the first visit if this is possible and two appointments should be made to ensure we have adequate time to deal with all the issues and arrange the tests, follow up and referral as necessary. Testing can include hormonal and other blood tests as well as ultrasound for the women and referral for semen analysis for the man. We also offer advice and support for couples while trying to conceive.
